"Georgia Performance Standards"

ELAALRL1 The student demonstrates comprehension by identifying evidence (i.e., examples of diction, imagery, point of view, figurative language, symbolism, plot events and main ideas) in a variety of texts representative of different genres (i.e., poetry, prose [short story, novel, essay, editorial, biography], and drama) and using this evidence as the basis for interpretation.

Kennedy's Explanation:

I think the meaning of this is to identify different meanings of Literature. There are several different ways to write books such as: short stories, long stories, poetry, etc... So with that in mind, people use evidence as the basis for speaking. Evidence is a huge part of Literature. It means to bring something out to look at. Also, Literature spreads out into different things like: imagery, diction, and figurative language. There are alot of different things that goes into figurative language such as: metaphors and similes.
